This page is dedicated to my father, Paul Schmidt. A veteran of the US Navy's nuclear submarine force, he inspired me to learn and appreciate this aspect of our nation's history.

1955 - Today

The 'Nuclear Navy' as Admiral Hyman G. Rickover coined, ushered in the modern era of the US Navy.

Coal and oil was set aside in favor of nuclear reactors.As the son of a nuclear submarine veteran, I have always been keen to understand and appreciate this aspect of American history.
